I was interested when a while ago I read the part of the wikipedia entry about UWaterloo that talks about the origin of charges in the arms:
Representing Waterloo’s location in the twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo, the double-chevron is taken from the coat of arms of Earl Kitchener, and the red lions are taken from the symbol of Arthur, Duke of Wellington, the victor at the Battle of Waterloo.
I searched and found a a blazon for the arms of Lord Kitchener which features a white chevron with a blue chevronel. Waterloo’s arms has a black chevron with a white chevronel.

This is the brief description of the co-op and its mission:
The Grand House Student Co-operative is an incorporated, non-profit, housing co-op, with the goal of demonstrating sensitive aesthetic and environmental design, promoting innovative living and exploring both traditional and alternative construction methods.
They have designed a straw bale house and have a “buy a bale” campaign going on.

In the Guelph Mercury on Saturday, Kirsch wrote about Norfolk Canada Home health in his column. That was after talking about brishing dogs’ teeth.
Suffering an ailment for which you need medicinal or health care supplies, some of them difficult to find on the shelf?
Norfolk Pharmacy and Surgical Supplies in downtown Guelph offers a convenient way to find those non-prescription and health-care items.
Owned by local pharmacist Sultan Asaria, Norfolk Pharmacy, in business 20 years, launched an Internet store last November. The address is www.CanadaHomeHealth.com.
Log onto the site’s well-designed home page and you’ll find subsequent pages to click onto for topics including products to make your life easier, like those offering relief from arthritis or aids for managing diabetes.
Another page, the medicine cabinet, offers products for ailments like allergies, colds, nausea and sleeplessness.
There’s a page for personal care products and another focusing on diet and fitness.
Norfolk Pharmacy has been for years a source of medical supplies and aids not easily found elsewhere.
The pharmacy can be reached at 837-1820. As the name implies, it’s on Norfolk Street, 85 Norfolk to be exact, across from Stone Store Natural Foods.
You can also e-mail the online store at contactus@canadahomehealth.com.

Junior and I have been sharing groceries and preparation for dinners. We made about 45 hamburgers on 5 May when ground beef was on sale at Central. Megs helped us. She mixed them all by hand.
Last week we started dinners in earnest. We went to Glenridge Zehrs on Monday. These were our meals last week.
- Monday 15 May - Scoobi-doo pasta (helical tubes) with pesto and sausage
- Wednesday 17 May - Chicken stirfry (red sweet chilis, green sweet chili, bean sprouts, carrot, celery) with rice
- Thursday 18 May - Porkroast, steamed bok choy, and rice
- Friday 19 May - Shrimp stirfry with noodles
- Monday 22 May - Steamed curry beef buns, lentil soup
I plan to suggest and make more meat-free meals.

Feds is running a survey on the proposed Bombshelter menu. They are planning for a different and expanded offering of food when the pub — soon to be pub/restaurant — re-opens in the fall.
These were the comments I gave for the survey:
I think you should spell bruschetta, mandarin, fish ‘n’ chips <-- this way -- what is smothered garlic loaf, what is smothered turkey sandwich, what is cobb salad? -- there should be more soups in addition to french onion, like pea soup, squash soup, lentil soup -- you should have vegan and healthy options, whole grains, vegetables, brown rice -- walking on to campus for Saturday breakfast is a big load; maybe arrange St. J parking for breakfast goers -- waldorf salad would be great for the salad menu -- also it is important to have a unifying concept for marketing Bombshelter as a restaurant -- I hope there is better lighting for when Bomber is the restraurant
This is the contents of the survey:

A friends recently sent me this postcard from Paris.

I sent back this photo as a post card from Toronto.

I thought it was fun.
I was looking at UW Formula SAE websites and I found this piece at the bottom.

Back in 2000 they e-mailed us back reports from the competition adn we, uwstudent.org, published the developments. It doesn’t seem like as much now, but it was pretty cool back then, six years ago.

Despite not having proper approval from anyone, UWFS closed SLC Tim Hortons for the weekend.

Even if UWFS believes the agreement suggests only FAB approval would be necessary, they didn’t even have that. They likely didn’t have people scheduled to work this weekend. As you could see the proposed reduced hours are dated to start at the beginning of the term.
One strange thing is that the proposal has it closing at 16:00 on Fridays, but the sign says it is closed starting 19:00 today, Friday.

Laughably, the sign around the corner on the, also closed, door says that it is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

There is also a petition that says:
Are you upset that Tim Horton’s is closed this weekend?
Do you wish that Tim Horton’s was open this weekend?
(May 19, 7pm until May 23 at 7:300am)
If so, please write your name, Student Number/Department and the time you visited Tim Horton’s below:
UWFS has agreed to pay for free coffee from the Turnkey desk for people who want it, while the outlet is closed. That is, from today until Tuesday morning.

Turnkey desk is open 24 hours and can replicate the slow service.

We played our first match of the term on Wednesday. We had a dozen players out.
During the warmup I bananaed a shot into the top right corner of the net from the lower right corner of the field. unfortunately that was worth 0 points. We won 2-0 against SNWA. Darell and Trav scored.
In the league they have a sportsmanship (called spirit of competition) rating. The referees and the opposing captain give a rating from -2 to 2, which are added to produce a rating from -4 to 4. We received a 0 and the opposing team got a -3. There are five ways to make a 0 but only two ways to make a -3. I expect that the other team gave us a negative, they can be certain that we did, mathematically that is.
They were a source of complaints throughout the match. At half-time the referee even called all the players together to make sure that they understood the rule on hand balls (the difference between ball to hand and hand to ball). At one point in the match one of them told my teammate to f’-off.
We had a good time and it was good to have Nigel from Newfoundland to join the team. I met Nigel a week earlier when we were scrimmaging and he said he was looking for a good team. People he new had a team in Advanced (b league) and he said he’d prefer an all-star team (a league).
Food Services is trying to shorten the hours of the SLC Tim Hortons at the advisory board meeting on Wednesday.
Food Services proposes shorter summer hours for SLC Tim Hortons uws 18 May 2006
Food Services hadn’t posted the agenda to its FAB website by the day before the meeting.
Here is a photo of a document showing the proposed changes:

The agreement says that it will be open “Tim Hortons SLC will be open on a 24 hour basis from the first day of classes until the last day of exams each term.”
It also says that “Any change in the operating hours, [...] will require the approval of the Food Advisory Board before those changes are implemented.”
The agreement requires FAB approval for changes, but doesn’t say that approval is sufficient. Clearly to contrary to the agreement requires approval from both parties to the agreement Food Services and Feds.
Today around noon Aho sent an e-mail to the council list saying: “As many of you know from the Imprint, the SLC Tim Hortons may be undergoing some operating hour changes.”
It is a little naf that he disregards the uws story that had been up since Wednesday and whose link I sent to the same list about 24 hours earlier.
Since he sent it to the list Rajat, JeffH, Randy, and Eric have responded.
The whole thing is that they reduced the hours last year too, the first summer the SLiCe TH was open.
