We won our game three tonight.
Our third match was against five-star, apparently named after the red chinese flag. We had never beaten them before and last summer we lost to them on the seventh shot of the shootout. They had lost many players since last year.
We were on our way up and they were on their way down. We went into this match with two wins and they had two losses and a tie.
I started Scott at striker with Luke, Darrell and Darcy on the mid wings, Kela and I at centre mid, Jesse at stopper, Marek at sweeper, Dom and Christian at outside backs and Steve as solid goal tender. Scott would add some speed and intensity up front.
Early in the first half Darrell put a cross in and it got deflected into the box. I saw space and was in good position to zip across the box to the ball. The keeper was after the same thing. I beat him and stuck the ball underneath him as he dove to the ground. We were up 1-0 and we kept the lead all match.
Kela scored our second goal in the second half. Scott who had switched back to sweeper came out of the backfield beat several defenders, Beckenbauer style, and placed a shot into the net to seal our victory.
The referee’s seemed really experienced. At the coin toss one of them told us that they were in a bad mood from the previous game. I responded that they should call games evenly regardless of mood. The other ref flipped the coin and asked the other team, who won, whether they wanted side or ball. I corrected him and told him that he should ask for side.
I was unhappy with their performance and acted in a way that was not endearing. On an offside I told the refereee to raise his arm to indicate an indirect kick. Near the end of the half he awarded us a throw when it went off me. He was standing far away and I admitted the touch and passed the ball to my opponent. The referee responded negatively to that and told me that it whould be our ball. Soon after at the half he told me that we should obey his calls. I relented and resolved to stay quiet for the second half.
We won the match and had a good talk after. I forgot to take a team photo. Christian and I went to Grad House after to watch the Stanley cup match.
