I got my third Campus Rec soccer championship this term when my team, Strength, beat Frosh FC 1-0 on 7 November 2006.
We built a strong team starting in 2004 when I decided to organize a team after playing on other teams for a few years. Over the past three years we played in three indoor terms and six outdoor. We retained some quality players and built a team around a philosophy of mutual support and continuous improvement.
When we began, it was hard to find players, but as we built a strong core of players, it was easier to recruit good players with good attitudes.
In the summer of 2005 we lost in the seventh shot of a shootout after leading 3-1 against our, then, perenniel rival five-star.
This past spring we went unbeaten during the season and looked to win it all when questionable calls (two cautions and a penalty) stopped us in the semi-final.
This year we dropped one match, but had a clear dominance in the league. We even lead in spirit of competition rating, which is a sportsmanship score evaluated by opponents and the referees.
In the quarter-final our regular keeper couldn’t make it, so I stepped up to tend goal. I allowed two goals, but we busted three in. We advanced to the semis, but there was a fight on the other side of the draw disqualifying both teams. So, our next match became the final and we won it.
