Last week a friend asked me who I was endorsing for Liberal leader. I told him or her that when considering whom I would “endorse,” that I thought Dion was okay, but I didn’t think he would win. I was a quarter right; he is more than okay.

I saw in a news conference today when a reporter asked about his skill with English, Stephane said: “I am a fast learner, a quick learner. I learn rapidly.” and one other simlar-meaning phrase. It’s like he was demonstrating how fast he could learn; he just learned all those four phrases that morning from his Rest-of-Canada phrase book.

The Liberals went into this convention with a host of choices. They could have gone with a battle-tested politician, a former athlete, a world famous academic or a food bank founder from the West; at the end of the day they choose the nerd.

That’s pretty Canadian.
