Dumb and erroroneous story in the star

Last week some free-lancer wrote a story about actors in academia (Actors in academia, Torst, 10 April) He or she described actors from Hollywood lecturing at universities.

…last year actress (and Kiefer Sutherland’s mom) Shirley Douglas lectured on universal health care at Ryerson University

It seems like he or she was squirreling these events into his or her thesis. Perhaps she has an interest, expertise, or knowledge about healthcare — not from being an actor or from being Keifer’s mom, but being Tommy Douglas’s daughter.

Eugene Levy conducted a tutorial at the University of Toronto alongside L.A. talent agents and managers on how to get an agent in the U.S. in 2002.

Eugene wrote in and pointed out that the seminar happened at Hart House, was not for a university course, and was on a topic about which he has knowledge. He wrote that if the writer had done research “you would be reading another letter here.” It just seems dumb. I wonder if the writer incurs any penalty for stupid errors.
