Where is University of Waterloo?

There’s a story in the Edmonton Sun today about a man whose “jalopy” of a car was stolen, then towed and impounded and the city was trying to charge him $130 per day in impound fees. In the end he didn’t have to pay, because he had reported it stolen to Edmonton police when the person he was offloading it on found that it was gone.

Man’s car troubles finally over Edmonton Sun 4 Oct 2007

The man was in Ontario at the time:

By that point he had left the city for Windsor, Ont., where he attends the University of Waterloo studying electrical engineering.

How are we supposed to believe other supposed “facts” in the story when he gets this one wrong. It’s right there in the name.

I sent the reporter a message to clarify:

University of Windsor, U of W is in Windsor
University of Waterloo, UW is in Waterloo

Maclean’s’ blogs don’t make sense

I was looking at the blogs on Maclean’s magazine website. Several things stuck out as being very silly.

Maclean's blog

When you are reading any post on the blog the header says, “LATEST BLOG ENTRY.” Then when you are reading a blog post there is a link to “Previous entry” which leads to newer posts.

latest blog entry

The corresponding “Next entry” goes to older posts, so clearly it is talking about the sediments of blog posts and not chronologcial sequence. But right next to that is says “PREVIOUS POSTS.”next entry and previous posts

So now they changed their name for blog posts from “entry” to “post” and previous in that case means older and not newer.

Hmm, if only I could escape this nonsense design by reading the RSS fee. Oh wait, no, they don’t offer one.
