I have a revolving account with ING Direct where I owed $0.97 and I went the website to pay it, this morning.
I entered 97 cents as the amount to transfer, but I got this error message:
! Error: We are sorry. Transaction amounts less than $10 cannot be processed. Please try again.
So, I tried to bypass the restriction. I entered an amount to transfer as $10.97, thinking I could just transfer $10 back, which should be an allowed transaction, but I got this error message:
! Error: This transaction would exceed your balance owing. Please click the Amount box and re-type in a lesser amount.
Thanks a lot! So, it is saying that I need to pay greater than or equal to ten, but less than or equal to 97 hundredths of a dollar.
The solution was to click on the “pay off balance of account” link, but it seemed pretty strange.
Their restrictions seem to be a means to minimize transactions and therefore their operating costs, but you would think the error messages would indicate the possibility of using the pay off balance option, or, even better, allow the transaction when it is equal to the balance.
