Rob Curley the “Internet nerd from Kansas who is in love with local news and the evolution of traditional media” wrote about their new weather page at his new Las Vegas Sun job.

As a banner they have animated flash graphic of the Las Vegas skyline with each section of it being part of the five day forecast.

I think it is great. It communicates the weather graphically and personalizes it to the city. That differentiates it from other weather services.

Rob refers to an old weather graphic at KUsports.com. KUsports is a Kansas-University-sports site and “the ultimate site for those who bleed Crimson and Blue.” It is operated by 6News cable station and Lawrence Journal-World newspaper where Rob used to work.

I have some distaste for weather stories. Someone who always talks about the weather is pretty boring. People bring up the weather as a topic when they have nothing else to say. But if you are going to talk about the weather at least make it interesting. And if you are going to report the weather collect it all together and make it useful.
