I was looking for a listing of Canadian universities ranked by size, but couldn’t find it. I was at the library and typed out the numbers from the 2007 Maclean’s Guide to Canadian Universities.
Here is the list from Toronto to Mount Allison ordered by full time enrolment:

Today is the first day that Canadians can sign up to the do not call list and the webpage is unavailable.
You are supposed to be able to sign up at www.LNNTE-DNCL.gc.ca, but it just gives this message:

Two things struck me while walking around the campus of Northwestern University early last week. The first is that they put posters on the sidewalk.

Like at other campuses bulletin boards are covered in posters, flyers, and ads of all sorts, but the ground is also covered with ads, often in pairs to face people walking either direction. It is called the flyer zone.

The other thing is that more than a quarter of these posters are for auditions to a cappella groups.

Queen’s homecoming was mostly peaceful and their football team won its match against Western.
An army of police braced for a wild street party in Kingston, Ont., but they ended up having a relatively peaceful night.
[...]
At least 50 people were arrested and scores of tickets were issued by Kingston police, who mobilized every officer and brought in reinforcements from Toronto and Belleville, for the occasion.

Fourteen points in 14 seconds, and four turnovers in 30 minutes. That’s all it took as the Queen’s Gaels defeated the Western Mustangs 43-16 in raining weather at Richardson Stadium in front of 10,778 fans during Homecoming Weekend at Queen’s University.

Tomorrow we will finally get some help in keeping telemarketers from calling. After starting the process seven years ago in 2001, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is launching the National Do Not Call List (DNCL).
People can sign up numbers to opt out of telemarketing calls except from the exempt charities, newspapers subscription offers and companies you have had dealings with in the past year and a half.
Some guy from a marketing association says it will let marketers focus on those who are more easily fooled by telemarketers.

Kingstonians are bracing for a raucous homecoming for Queen’s University this weekend. Three years ago there was a riot and among other events a car burned, which probably made the national media reaction worse.
The football game will be an exciting one between unbeaten, fourth-ranked Golden Gaels and the also unbeaten second-ranked Western Mustangs, which will make for an even more riled Saturday night crowd. Two weeks ago, Western beat Waterloo 49 to 3; Queen’s will meet the Warriors in the last game this season.
At police request, Kingston beer stores won’t sell kegs to anyone but bar operators and those with the proper permits. I think Beer Stores in Waterloo maintain that restriction year-round.
Clearly Queen’s is a much different world than Waterloo. Thye certainly have spirit, but their problems are nothing to envy.

As of early Monday morning I am avuncular. I am far away right now, but I did write a message to the new baby.
I wrote:
Welcome to the family and to Canada. Things may seem strange for a while, but you will get used to them.

Ooms said she liked my previous 59 Carden St. blog review about Guelph city hall, so here’s another short one.
- Fired 19 Sep 2008 - The city terminated some company’s contract (it is called “U R bacon”) over construction of the new city hall meaning that the blog can retain its name based on city hall’s old address for longer.
- A back-and-forth on hydro 19 Sep 2008 - Some citizen’s council said that the proposed hydro merger is wrong; a city councillor said that the council was wrong to say it was wrong.
- Guelph stinks, and admits it 25 Nov 2007

I met up with Jackie on Sunday. I hadn’t seen her in at least a year. I told her what I have been up to and she told me about the projects she is working on. She has so much energy and does so much. Even though Jackie talks quickly, we talked for an hour and a half — she has that much to tell.
One of her projects is Jackie Lee Talent Management.

We surprised many people last week with our 5-0 quarter-final win in soccer.
The other team’s captain wrote: “…if they play like they did tonight, they will be hoisting the League Cup….” But we did not make it past the semi-final.

This week opened scoring early on when Trav volleyed a cross in. They answered with a goal from inside they box after their strong forwards broke our defence.
