Last week we went on a walk on a bit of the Waterloo Moraine at the end of Columbia Forest boulevard.
We pulled into the cul-de-sac where the trail started. Different groups had displays and there was a bake sale too. We bought and chared some fudge. The dude ahead of us in line talked about how some people he knew figured out that puffed rice squares were the healthiest of all bake sale items. He subsequently squirreled that into the notion that they were healthy.
Steve Murphy guided the tour. We first stopped on a bridge and he talked about the agricultural history of the area around the moraine and how that affected waterlevels and erosion of the creek.
We looked at different plants like ragweed and wild cucumber, he listed invasive and native plant species. He talked about how trails are constructed and some of the background of city decisions with respect to trails, land and the moraine.
About 33 people joined us on the first walk of the day. We saw Heather and Emma.
