Feds election EngSoc and Renison forums

The EngSoc forum was on Thursday and the Renison forum was on Friday. The only thing exceeded by the lack of student interest was the lack of student interest. The ratio of knowing about what you were talking to not was about nine to one.

Four people asked questions in both forums combined, not counting me and the questions I asked.

New Caribbean restaurant "Jamaican Jerk"

Yah, dat right. Dere's a new Caribbean restaurant comin ta town.

Heh heh. Rainbow Cuisine, the jamaican restaurant on King St. East in Kitchener, is opening a restaurant at University Plaza, 140 University Avenue West.

It is called "Rainbow Cuisine's Jamaican Jerk."

Feds Media Forum criticism 28 Jan

Campaigning in Feds elections started today and today was the first forum, the campus media forum.

There were many problems with it, some of them common with past forums and others are more unusual. I acknowledge that I could have influenced some of these things and that I did not is my own failure.

The longevity of universities

There is an observation about the stable existence of universities that describes a number of institutions that have existed continuously since the sixteenth century and all but a few of them are universities. Those few include the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, the legislature of Iceland, and the legislature of the Isle of Man.

Making Bomber bigger cheaply

An idea that I talked with someone about three years ago is one that would give the Bombshelter more space and provide more lounge space for students. It would also address financial problems in the Feds.

Tufte's PowerPoint pamphlet

I recently received The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint by Edward Rolfe Tufte. Tufte is the author of at least seven books including Visual Explanations, Envisioning Information, and The Visual Display of Quantitative Information.

Study compares tuition fee and enrolment in provinces

Norma Kozhaya of Montreal Economic Institute prepared a study relating tuition fees and university enrolment. In the study she writes, "Data from various Canadian provinces show no direct relationship between lower fees and greater university access."

CECS and communication

CECS has communication problems both externally and internally. I spoke with Feds VP Ed Liam McHugh-Russell last weekand we both agree on this.

Complaining about co-op is a popular pastime at UW. Many of the complaints are valid and rotted in mutual ignorances between the department and the students.
