Raereview townhall at Doon

I went to the Ktown hall for the Rae Review. It was at ConestogaC. THere was a panel of four people. Lsly Chrch, Don Drmmnd, BillD, and . LC spoke about 3 times, DD 7 times, WD about 9 times, and EL about 3 times.

Basically people spoke the panel responded sometimes and some of the audience clapped the rest of the time. All over two hours.

Below I have typed out some of my notes. I have obviously qualified things and some word choices may be different due to semantic encoding.

Van accident at DP library

Contact between a bench and a van left the van damaged this afternoon at about 14:48 today.

Advani story in NPost

The NatPost had an interesting story on Monday about an immigrant who happened to go to Waterloo in 1969 and went on to found a corporate services company. It was interesting to me because I had heard of the company through corporations branch.

Ms. Advani, who was born and raised in Mumbai, India, landed in Canada in 1969 with $10 in her pocket and a bursary to pursue a master's degree in French at the University of Waterloo.

She started out with the introduction of NUANS (Newly Updated Automated Name Search) which was a service that must be used when incorproating to check for conflicts with other trade names. She signed up to offer this service.

KSmith Q&A's in TO at RT Hall

I went to the filmmaker KSMith's "lays the podium down" on Thursday. JB came with me. The show was just him answering questions and telling stories for four hours. It was being filmed for a second DVD of the type. I had watched the first one a few months ago.

The show was at Ry Thmson Hall in TO.

Tim J from Tech Cap came to speak for a CBET event on 27 October. He is the former CFO of P'xstr'm. The digital projector wasn't working properly with the computer so he had to give an only oral presentation.

Balanced maps of pres-election results

I read DAkin's post about this site at umich. The sites show different ways of representing the "redBush-blueKerry" election results that show the division of support with varying accuracy.

Maps shown on TV fill in each state with the corresponding solid colour of the candidate that received that states electoral college votes. Because the amount of a given colour in those maps is based on the land area of the states and not the voting population it doesn't represent votes cast.

To address this it first shows a map with the area adjusted proportionally to voter population. They also explore examining results at the county level and choosing colour shades between the red and blue to show the closeness of support.

DB's Imprint correction on BoG

The DB put out a correction for something printed in Imprint.

"Although Imprint reported Friday that there are three student representatives out of 45 members on the UW board of governors, there are actually five (three undergraduates and two grad students) out of a total membership of 36"

CWilliams wrote in Imprint about Henry's one man panel "forum"

"One of the recommendations that Feds is suggesting is a higher number of students on UW's governing board. As it stands, there are only three students out of the 45 members on the board."

At the event Henry gave the incorrect number. Williams likely got it from him and used it without checking.

Found out about Systems building proposed last spring

I recently found out about the proposed Systems Design Building.

It looks great. The design of the low-rise (two storey) building includes:

• a roof garden
• solar cells
• an atrium
• rain water collection system
• offices, lecture halls, studio space, research space
